Picture of man with bag over his headI was a Detroit Lions fan for 35 years.   I decided to "trade" myself to the New England Patriots in 2001 after watching Tom Brady quarterback the Patriots in the 4th quarter of their 2000 game vs the Lions.   I attended classes at the University of Michigan when he was a quarterback there.  I had been following a losing Detroit Lion team and franchise for years and was just tired of it.  

It occurred to me that most of the players at UM, whom I follow, are not from Michigan including Tom Brady who is from California.  Why should I continue to choose the Lions to love, root for, and spend my money on simply because I live in Michigan.  

Needless to say I am rooting for a winner now and proud of it.  I occasionally tune in the "Losing Lions" just for a laugh.  Life on Sundays has never been better.  I even watched "My Team" win a few Super Bowls.  

I wish Fan-Free-Agency had been around then to send letters indicating my disgust to Mr. Ford, Matt Millen and the coaches on my behalf.  I would have felt better letting them know I had left the ranks of unhappy Lion fans.
